Help Cocoa Beach Remain Turtle Friendly
Nesting and hatching season in Florida for the Marine Turtle takes place from March 1 through October 31. Help us protect these beautiful animals by keeping lights off throughout the evening hours during this time. We ask that you help to enforce the following beach laws during your stay:
- Do Not Disturb Turtles, Turtle Nests or Turtle Hatchlings - Sea turtles are an endangered and protected species, if you are fortunate enough to see a turtle come ashore, do not shine a flashlight or use a flash camera, and give it very wide berth.
- Do Not Push Stranded Marine Mammals Back to Sea - . If you see a beaching, call the Cocoa Beach Police Department and try to keep the mammal comfortable by pouring sea water over the exposed skin and keep it shielded from the sun by covering it with wet towels.
- Stay Off the Dunes -The dunes protect properties from high tides and storm surges. Many of the dunes rely on vegetation to stay in place against the forces of the wind and sea.
